Micro-Loans!
The Library partnered with the CIA to announce their new Micor-loan program. The CIA’s Micro-loan program is issuing loans between $3,000 and $10,000 to members of the community. This program is for Haines residents who are low to moderate income and wish to start-up or expand a business. Please call the Chilkoot Indian Association for more information.

Northwest Coast Design Workshop
Jim Heaton ran a three week workshop on teaching how to build Northwest Coast Designs. The workshop was a blast and attended by many.

Traditional Trade Routes
We had six panel members from around the community discussing the historical, cultural, and economic role of
traditional trade routes for sustainable communities in isolated rural areas in Alaska and Canada. Over twenty people came to listen to the discussion and thought it was very worthwhile.

One attendee said," Understanding our respective cultures-and having respect for others is very important to sustaining a civil society. I feel more comfortable with people who have come here before me when I hear their views and history from them directly."
